October 20, 2009, Georgetown, OH.... In this year alone, more than 190,000 women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 40,000 are expected to die from this disease.

To recognize the professionals who provide the diagnostic technology for diagnosing breast cancer, Dale Cahall. Mayor of the Village of Georgetown, presented a proclamation to the Diagnostic Imaging staff at Brown County General Hospital.

He recognized the Mammography Technologists and Radiologists for their role in the timely and accurate diagnosing of this disease. “We in Brown County and surrounding area in which Brown County General Hospital serves, are fortunate to have the state-of-the-art technology which this hospital offers through the Diagnostic Imaging Department,” said Cahall.
Cahall also commended the staff for going above and beyond their daily healthcare responsibilities to actively support the Brown County branch of the Susan Koman Foundation. “We understand the importance of the role this organization plays in the life of cancer patients and began raising money for this organization with a Pink Ribbon Campaign, “ said Darlene Flannery, Director of the Diagnostic Imaging Department.

Anyone wanting to honor a friend, or family member currently with cancer or to remember a loved one lost to this disease, can place their name on a pink ribbon for a donation of $1.00. The ribbons are displayed on the window at the Diagnostic Imaging registration desk.

Throughout October, the Diagnostic Imaging staff are giving women who have a mammogram a gift and a chance at several raffle prizes. “We hope that if you have not had your yearly mammogram, you will take time this month to schedule an appointment,” said Flannery.

Last year, the department launched a MammogramNOW service on the hospital’s website. Those who have not been diagnosed with breast cancer may utilize this service to conveniently schedule a mammogram. Click here for Mammogram NOW details and scheduling information.
