September 10, 2009, Georgetown, OH... A lovely party was held in the beautiful Ivy Hills home of William Kerschner and Dr. Magdalena Kerschner to raise funds for the Brown County General Hospital Foundation on Friday evening, September 4th. The party was organized as a kick-off for an upcoming 5 Mile Pain Awareness Walk to be held at Sawyer Point Park on October 18th.

Dr. Kerschner is the Director of the hospital’s Center for Interventional Pain Management (CIPM) and finds that many suffering with chronic pain suffer needlessly for years before finding help. “This is why I felt that it was important that we try to bring attention to the problem of chronic pain and to let people know that there is help,” said Kerschner.

Guests from both Hamilton County and Brown County attended the fundraising event and enjoyed catered hor’deouvres and delightful Scotty dog shaped candies and cookies, symbolic of the CIPM logo. Everyone was entertained with flamenco guitar music by talented musician Jorge Wojtas, as well as spiritually inspired by the masterful art of well-known artist James “Skip” Werline who was the special guest of the evening.

Werline has donated a limited edition print of the White House signed by former president George W. Bush to the Foundation for use in fundraising and has generously offered to donate a percentage of his sales to the Foundation in support of pain treatment funding.

The party event was filmed by television producer Peter Kasprzycki of Channel 9 News. He also filmed personal interviews with Dr. Kerschner and Brown County Regional HealthCARE CEO Michael Patterson that aired the following day. Details about the walk can be found on the Channel 9 website.

According to Dr. Kerschner, this walk for pain is to her knowledge the first such walk in America to be held to bring attention to chronic pain. “We hope that everyone who can will come to Sawyer Point Park on Sunday, October 18th to walk and be a part of this first of a kind event to support those who are suffering with pain,” she said.

Mike Roman, formula race car driver, will be a special guest of the pain walk. Roman suffered for 10 years with chronic pain before he found interventional pain management services that introduced him to the spinal cord stimulator. He now lends his name and experience to Boston Scientific, makers of the spinal cord stimulator.

There will be an opportunity to pre-register and pay your $25.00 donation registration fee by credit card on line, or a mail-in application form that may be sent to Brown County General Hospital with a check payment. On the day of the event registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. You can also pick up your free t-shirt. The walk begins at 10 a.m. Scotty dogs are welcome to walk with their owners.
