July 28, 2009, Georgetown, OH….Xavier University’s School of Nursing director, Dr. Sue Schmidt, recently contacted Brown County General Hospital vice president of nursing, Adele Ducharme, RN, to inform her of Xavier’s $1.5 million grant that will allow them to offer higher education videoconferencing classes for degreed nurses in the BCGH service area at Brown County General Hospital. BCGH is one of three rural facilities included in the Xavier education project. The other two are Fairfield Medical Center, Fairfield, Ohio and Wesleyan Senior Living in Lorain County. Classes will include bridge courses for AD and diploma graduates in preparation for graduate study, These include NURS 490 Analysis of Healthcare Information (3) credits and NURS 496 Professional Development II (3) credits. These classes will be held on Monday evenings at BCGH. RNs with a baccalaureate degree in nursing or another area can enroll directly into the MSN program. No GRE required. Courses will include NURS 556 Introduction to Clinical Nurse Leader for RNs (3) credits) and NURS 501-04 Theoretical Bases for Nursing Practice (3) credits. These classes will be held on Thursday evenings at BCGH. An opportunity to learn more about these nursing higher education classes is being offered on Wednesday August 5th when representatives from Xavier University will be at BCGH to answer questions, offer information and recruit nurses for the classes.. All area nurses are invited to come by the Executive Conference Room in the Administrative area, of the hospital, starting at 4:30 p.m., to discuss their higher education needs. Courses are scheduled to start on August 25th.
