There has been of late much speculation regarding the future of Brown County General Hospital. Some have even gone as far as believing that we are in our final days.
However, from within the walls of this over half-century building, I have a completely different view. From within, there is nothing that equates to the 1950’s in treatment methods and operations. Over the recent few years I have seen this hospital grow in ways that would make the hospital’s founders proud.
If those who claim our hospital is outdated would need Diagnostic Imaging services, they would have available to them the latest in state-of-the art technology. This department provides the most highly sophisticated service within the hospital. You have access to a patient friendly state of the art technology MRI purchased new in 2008, and the purchase of a new 2009 CT Scanner, along with a fully technically equipped fluoroscopy room.
Our Radiologists are experts in their field and are a part of an organization of Radiologists who serve Diagnostic Imaging Departments in several local area hospitals. This offers an opportunity to easily share information from one hospital to the other and provides patients with the convenience of staying within their community for diagnostic tests, no matter where their doctor may practice.
Few medical programs have set us apart from other area facilities as the Center for Interventional Pain Management. For the past two years, this medical service has helped thousands of people suffering with chronic pain. This program continues to grow in its ability to bring new, innovative treatment options for the management of pain to the many communities we proudly serve.
Ten years ago, those with back pain had the options of pain medication and surgery, but today at Brown County General Hospital, we have introduced the newest options in medical procedures for our patients. These procedures include; spinal cord stimulator insertion, vertebroplasty, disc decompression, and radiofrequency lesioning. These are services only found in the most sophisticated medical facilities in our country; however, with Dr. Magdelena Kerschner being a member of our Medical Staff we are fortunate and able to provide this service.
Most recently we were invited by Xavier University to be a part of their teaching hospital grant program. Now, area RN’s will have the opportunity to work on their Master Degree in Nursing through Xavier by attending videoconferencing classes at Brown County General Hospital this Fall. Contact Xavier University admissions office or Nursing Administration at Brown County General Hospital for information on the program.
There are also plans underway for the hospital campus to be site of Brown County’s first medical helicopter service. This service will make it possible for those in emergency conditions to be more promptly attended to and taken to the most appropriate hospital for care.
As with many things in life, change is constant. Brown County Regional HealthCARE is ever changing. As you can see we are continuing to grow, develop new services, and provide the latest medical technology and procedures for our communities. So please let me assure you that this hospital is but entering a new phase of its existence, and, as with all that I have mentioned has made positive changes in the hospital, there is no reason to believe that it will ever be the same again, but what you will have is a hospital in Brown County that you can confidently go to when you need medical care, and from my point of view, for many years to come. |
